Alumni associations aren’t just about “giving” out time and space or energy and expertise or finances and resources. At SAGOBA we want you to be part of an enjoyable and memorable experience. Yes, seeing the student you sponsored from Form 1 to Form 4 or your mentee pass the exams and join university or college is immeasurable, unquantifiable and highly gratifying. That colleague you assisted in a SAGOBA networking event, values you as a brother. 1. Funeral assistance
SAGOBA provides financial assistance to a member or relatives of a member on the occasion of demise. The assistance is described and regulated in accordance with the specific provisions as stipulated in the “Funeral Policy” document. SAGOBA is with you and your family during bereavement.
2. Exclusive Offers and Discounted Merchandise
SAGOBA has a “Soko” space on its website where members post exclusive offers, whether given out for free or at a discounted rate. Members have the opportunity to select their preferred commodity/service and link up with the seller/giver. The association also hosts special alumni networking events where members get discounted tickets to such events. Additionally, the merchandise commissioned and/or bearing the SAGOBA logo (e.g., caps, t-shirts, etc.) are often used in various SAGOBA events. As memorabilia, such merchandise is sold to generate revenue that is needed for financing SAGOBA activities but as well as financing various projects at the school. Members buy such merchandize at discounted prices. SAGOBA strives to establish sponsorship linkages with business partners and other service providers (e.g., bookshops, transport agencies, school uniform providers, food suppliers for the school, etc.) who would be willing to offer discounted rates for their goods and services for members who have children schooling at St. George’s.
As a member, you enjoy these exclusive offers and merchandise at affordable price or sometimes completely free of charge.
3. Employment opportunity, job advertisement, professional listing, tenders, contracts.
SAGOBA strives to ensure that its members get employment opportunities. The association has a “Kazi” space on its website where members or the association posts job advertisements, call for tender but also short-term work contracts. In addition, there is a professional listing database centre “LinkUp” where members provide a summary of their professional qualifications and/or work interest. This makes it easy for members head-hunters to search and find/recommend a prospective work-partner/employee for a specific job.
As a member, you have the priority and that’s why the announcement is made internally in SAGOBA so that you will be the first to be considered.
4. Investment and Business Opportunities, Business StartUp Assistance (BSA) and LiftUp Program
SAGOBA is the centre for networking, yes business networking. SAGOBA strives to make investments that will generate revenue in order to improve the lives of its members as well as develop its alma mater, the school. With the advantage of its huge membership base, SAGOBA business potential cannot be underestimated. As a member, you become a shareholder and automatically gain from the revenue generated by SAGOBA business activities. Additionally, you may be the valuable employee that SAGOBA has been looking for.
Do you want to start a business? Do you have a small business you want to grow? SAGOBA Business StartUp Assistance (BSA) program is here for you. SAGOBA offers its members the BSA program where a member gets assisted to realise his dream business, either as a sole proprietorship or in partnership with others. Tell us your dreams, and SAGOBA experts will assist you turn the dreams into reality. When you grow, we grow too.
“LiftUp” is another program complimentary to BSA but dedicated to those members who have their own business already running but need to be boosted in one way or another. For example, the facility where your Agrovet business is housed was destroyed by a natural catastrophe and you do not have any means to revamp it. The “LiftUp” program in SAGOBA can jump-start you. Another example, the entire flock of broiler chicken died due to a disease ravaging the area. SAGOBA says to you “LiftUp”!
5. Admission of children/relative of SAGOBA members to St. George’s
It is the dream of each alumnus to have their children or relative join a prestigious school. Being one of the top schools in Kilifi County, St. George’s is an attraction for many students and parents alike. With availability of space permitting, children and relatives of SAGOBA members are given priority for admission or transfer from other schools to St. George’s. SAGOBA and the School are in close cooperation in this matter in order to establish modalities of fulfilling this need.
6. College Scholarships for SAGOBA alumni children at St. George’s
One of the core values of SAGOBA is academic excellence. At SAGOBA, we give priority to providing students at St. Georges a conducive academic environment. SAGOBA, through its various partners and well-wishers, has a scholarship program to help fund the education needs of bright students studying at St. Georges. As an alumnus, your child(ren) at St. Georges get priority for receiving the scholarship, needless to say, in accordance to the rules and regulations of scholarship policy. And that’s not all! As a SAGOBA member, your child automatically qualifies for a scholarship support at university and/or college level.
